Green Fourth Stren Texas Division
Two weeks ago, Jerry Green had no intentions of fishing the Falcon Lake Stren event. He came down to Zapata with his father and brother for some fun fishing like he has been doing so for the past 20 years. As soon as they left town, Green called FLW Outdoors headquarters to see if there was any way he could still gain entry in the tournament. Because he had a co-angler who was also interested in registering, he was accepted.

“It sure is nice to be back in South Texas,” said Green, who recently moved to Cullman, Ala., to be closer to the majority of FLW Tour venues. “I’ve fished this lake a lot, and I’ve seen it at all different water levels, and that has really helped.”

Green fished a prespawn area on the American side of the lake in Goose Bay. He slow-rolled a 1/2-ounce white spinnerbait on 50-pound braid in approximately 9 feet of water.

“If I went any shallower, I would get only small bucks. But at 9 feet the females were staging.”

His day-three weight of 31 pounds, 10 ounces was his heaviest of the tournament. He finished fourth with 86-11 over three days, earning $7,000.

“A huge key has been my Power Tackle rods. They make rods designed to get these big fish out of cover. Out here, you’ve got to be able to control these mean fish. Believe it or not, I didn’t lose a single fish all week. That’s a testament to using the right tackle.” Complete Story

Green, Family Enjoy Life On The Road

Jerry Green had a pretty normal family life 5 years ago, before he decided to become a full-time tour pro. He and wife Linda both worked 40-hour-a-week jobs, his older son was in elementary school and the younger son went to daycare, and their household functioned much like millions of others in America.

That all changed when he joined the FLW Tour, and it was all for the better. Sons Ryan (12) and Riley (6) are home-schooled now, and when dad goes off to work, everybody else goes along for the ride.

"I don't regret it at all," said the native Texan who now resides in Cullman, Ala. "The steady paycheck (from his job as an electrician for a major oil company) was nice, but I get to spend a lot more quality time with my family now. Read More

"They just kind of played out on me today. (My area) was up around Turkey Creek. There's three major bays that are real close to it, and also a loading ramp that a lot of tournaments go out of. Between the three bays, and a lot of fish coming back to the loading ramp from other tournaments, there's just a lot of fish in that area." Read More
